Mantua is arguably West Philadelphia's most up-and-coming area. Located from 31st to 40th Street, just north of Powelton Village and University City. It has recently become a haven for investors and developers who see it as a diamond in the rough based on its proximity to Fairmount Park, The Art Museum, Philadelphia Zoo, Drexel University and Center City Philadelphia. While much of its northwestern section remains distressed, the southern and eastern section (those sections closest to Drexel University and Center City) over the past decade have experienced immense redevelopment resulting in rapid real estate appreciation. The houses in this area are primarily 2 or 3-story row homes, with only a few semidetached properties scattered throughout the neighborhood.
